Watton Street Scene
Street Furniture
As part of its responsibilities, the Council maintains many items of street furniture such as the seats, bus shelters, the notice boards in the Vets car park, Thetford Road car park and Cadman Way car park. We are also responsible for the Town Hall, Litter and Dog bins, Watton boundary signs and Watton Town signs.
The Town Landscape
We employ the Town Gardener who maintains all the hanging baskets, planters and concrete tree surrounds that contribute so much to the lovely look and feel of the High Street. To keep costs to a minimum, we have a Nursery containing two poly tunnels and most if not all plants are grown at the nursery for use in the town.
Playgrounds
The Council owns the children's playground situated at the Watton Sports Centre. This is for children up to 12 years of age and was updated and refurbished during 2007 and was Cllr Harvey's project when he was Mayor. The cost for updating with new equipment was £32,000. We are now (2009) in the process of assuming responsibility for other play areas within the town from Breckland.
Memorial Garden
The Council is responsible for the garden at the junction of Norwich Road and Thetford Road near to the Tesco store. It is a feature of the town which is used by many people It was landscaped for the millennium.
Cemetery
The Council is the burial authority for the town cemetery and also has responsibility for the closed churchyard. Mapping of the new cemetery has been carried out and the old cemetery and churchyard is an ongoing project. A PDF copy of the cemetery rules can be downloaded by clicking here.
